According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second most common cancer for women in the U.S.
If breast cancer is found early, when it’s small and hasn’t spread, there’s a better chance that treatment will be successful, the American Cancer Society explains.
Any changes in breast shape or size, such as swelling in any part of the breast, or swollen lymph nodes in the underarms or near the collarbones.
Changes in breast skin or nipple area, like thickening or swelling.
Changes to the nipples: if the skin is red or flaky; if they pull inward; or if there’s discharge other than breast milk, such as blood.
A lump in the breast is the most common sign for men, but they can also have the same symptoms as women.
